FREDERICKSBURG -- Bedecked in an unprecedented display of red, white and blue, the village is Replica watches rolling out the most patriotic welcome mat ever for its Fourth of July celebration, to be held this year on July 5.

Councilwoman Jan Lemon said the downtown is showcasing more than 130 American flags, donated by people from Wayne County and beyond in honor of veterans.

The community traditionally presents "The biggest Small-town Fourth of July Parade in Wayne County," and this year is no different. The parade draws participation from throughout Wayne County and beyond as paraders show up to show off ... well ... anything and everything.

There is no pre-registration, and people wanting to be in the procession need only show up at the intersection of Fredericksburg and Graber roads at the north edge of the village at 9:30 a.m. on July 5.

The parade steps off at 11 a.m., traveling south through the heart of the downtown, before turning west one block to the grounds of Fredericksburg Elementary School where it will disband. Walking units will join the parade at Karch Street and disband at the Mrs. Miller's Noodle plant.

This year's parade will see trophies presented in 31 categories, based on the judges' decisions.

In the area of fire vehicles, trophies will be presented to the oldest truck in service, the tanker with the best overall appearance, the pumper with the best overall appearance, best specialty unit and the fire truck which traveled the farthest distance to participate in the parade.

There will be first-, second- and third-place awards for the best- looking motorcycle, and there will be first- and second-place awards for best horse units.

In the antique car categories, there will be first-, second- and third-place awards for best pre-1950s cars, and first-, second- and third-place awards for the best post-1950 cars.

In the area of best commercial vehicles, there will be first-, second- and third-place awards, as well as first- and second-place awards for best marching/walking units. There will be first- and second-place awards for the best-decorated floats, and categories for most patriotic unit, most unusual unit, most original unit, best tractor and best-decorated bicycle.

In addition, a trio of judges' choice awards will be made.

Following the parade, according to Kris Dennison, president of the Fredericksburg Ruritans, a variety of activities will take place at the park behind Fredericksburg Elementary School, including a dunking booth, a softball tournament, the landing by a Medflight helicopter around 1 p.m. if it is not needed for any medical emergencies, homemade ice cream, a duck race on Salt Creek for a $300 top prize and a cookout by the Fredericksburg Public Library.
